Team ICES Western wins big

The results of Canada Health Infoway’s Data Impact Challenge II are in and ICES Western came out on top.

Data Impact Challenge II awarded teams for their answers to important questions about health and our health system. After the success of last year’s Data Impact Challenge, the Data Impact Challenge II put a call out to all Canadians for answer submissions that would provide actionable evidence to support decision-making, more quickly.

Team ICES Western took up the challenge and answered the question “To what extent does re-prescribing and re-dispensing of culprit drugs contribute to the burden of adverse drug events presenting to Canadian hospitals?”  The team was awarded $10,000 for the Best Answer Award in the adverse drug events category and an additional $10,000 for the Judges’ Choice Award (provided to the submission with the highest score overall).

Answer submissions were judged by a panel of data experts and leaders in health care and academics, and winners were selected based on the quality of submitted answers.

ICES Western is a collaborative initiative between Lawson Health Research Institute, Western University, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. This venture provides researchers with access to unique scientific data to speed up discovery and improve patient care. It is a satellite site of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES).

An awards ceremony was held in August 2016 to recognize and celebrate the ICES Western team. Congratulations!
