From crafting a global definition of probiotics to developing novel therapies used by millions, Dr. Gregor Reid has significantly advanced our knowledge of how beneficial microbes, especially bacteria, contribute to health. Recognizing his role as a world leader in probiotics research, Dr. Reid has now been elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada.
Researchers in London, Ontario have shown that your morning cup of coffee could be adversely affecting diagnosis and treatment for high blood pressure. The research team from Western University and Lawson Health Research Institute measured how occasional coffee consumption in individual patients impacted the action of calcium channel blockers, a commonly prescribed class of blood-pressure lowering medication.
Richard McClelland received the Staff Award of Excellence at the 2016 Lawson Impact Awards this past spring. Richard is Operations Lead of the Cancer Clinical Research Unit. During his short time in this role, Richard has achieved a number of significant successes, transforming the function and attitude of the unit. Richard is highly respected by all staff and under his leadership, productivity and morale has increased.
