Biography

Dr. Rahel Eynan is an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Schulich School
of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University and a Scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute. 

Dr. Eynan received her BA in sociology from York University, an MA in sociology from Concordia University, and
 a PhD in Medical Science from  the Institute of Medical Science at University of Toronto. She has worked at the
Suicide Studies Research Unit with the Arthur Sommer Rotenberg Chair in Suicide Studies at St Michael’s Hospital 
for 14 years before moving to London.  

Over the years she has been involved with multiple advocacy and programs in mental health
Services. Dr. Eynan was the Research Chair of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP), 
the past President of the Ontario Association for Suicide Prevention (OASP), and for ten years
held a Lieutenant Governor of Ontario appointment to the Board of Directors of the Ontario
Mental Health Foundation (OMHF).

In 2009 together with the team from Trillium Health Centre she received the Sharing the Flame
Award from the Canadian Council on Learning for the development and implementation of the
Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training Program for employees at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). 

Dr. Eynan has published over 40 articles in scientific journals, book chapters, co-edited and co-authored two
books, and presented extensively at national and international conferences.   

Dr. Eynan has quantitative and qualitative research methodological expertise and her current research at Lawson Health Research Institute continues to focus on suicidal behaviour and suicide prevention.
