Biography

Dr. Al Getgood is an internationally renowned orthopaedic knee specialist and clinician scientist. Having completing his primary medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Edinburgh in 2000, Dr. Getgood worked as a junior doctor in the UK completing basic surgical training before starting orthopaedic residency in August 2004. He completed his residency training in July 2010, which included completing a research Doctorate (MD) in orthopaedic sciences. From August 2010 to February 2012 Dr. Getgood underwent specialist clinical training in knee surgery followed by a locum position at the University of Warwick. 

In September 2012 he moved to London to the world renowned Fowler Kennedy Sports Medicine Clinic within the Division of Orthopaedics and Department of Surgery, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Dr. Getgood has since established himself as a leading clinician scientist, having been successful in securing peer reviewed and industry funded grants to build his pre-clinical and clinical research program focusing on joint preservation and post traumatic OA. He has been awarded the Department of Surgery Clinician Scientist Award, which recognizes clinician researchers, providing a stipend to protect research time over three years. Particular achievements include being awarded the MTF Junior Investigator award and the ISAKOS/OREF funding award.

Dr. Getgood has authored 48 peer-reviewed articles, 7 book chapters, edited 1 book and 1 journal issue. He has given over 85 national and international conference presentations, lectures and demonstrations. He is a past General Board Member of the International Cartilage Repair Society and sits on the Sports Medicine committee of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). Dr. Getgood is also a member of the International ACL study group and the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
