Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. As one of Canada’s top ten research institutes, our scientists are tackling the most pressing challenges in health care. Reporting to the Director, Research Operations (Lawson’s Chief Operating Officer, Research), the Communications Consultant provides strategic consultation for a wide range of communications and external relations activities. A key component of this work is to ensure external and internal stakeholders are kept informed of Lawson’s activities, initiatives and accomplishments. This role will have a large focus on corporate communication activities to support hospital research through Lawson, including work to ensure an effective flow of information through internal communications. Storytelling, in particular expert positioning and promotion of scientific literacy, website management and special events coordination will also be key responsibilities. The Communications Consultant will interact regularly with communication colleagues at LHSC, St. Joseph’s and Western University, as well as various other internal and external partners.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Research Operations (Lawson’s Chief Operating Officer, Research), the Communications Consultant provides strategic consultation for a wide range of communications and external relations activities. Qualifications

Successful completion of a Bachelor’s or Post-Graduate degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism or related field.
• Minimum of five years recent, related experience in public relations, business communications or journalism; in a
research or health care setting an asset.
• Superior skills in written and visual storytelling on both print and digital platforms. Experience with video
production, photography and creative design an asset.
• Proven tactician in implementing internal communications strategies that support and enhance internal
information flows and culture.
• Skilled in managing an organization’s internal and external web presence, including strategy and use of online Content Management Systems (CMS).
• Extensive experience in media relations with the ability to foster strong relationships with members of the news media regionally, nationally and beyond.
• Experience coordinating special events.
• Ability to manage a brand and identity across a variety of platforms and material.
• Ability to develop and implement effective communication strategies.
• Experience with crisis and issues management an asset.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• Effective time management and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
• Ability to adapt to various work styles and demands, and receiving direction from various individuals.
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically.
• Ability to travel between research sites.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family-centred care.

Immunization Requirements:

Successful candidates will be required to complete a health review which includes providing vaccination records or proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox). In addition candidates will need to provide documentation of Tuberculosis Skin testing and a completed COVID vaccine series (two vaccines).
